Key Responsibilities:

NV5 is on the lookout for a full-time Field Survey Manager to join our team. This role is ideal for professionals in the surveying field who are eager to advance their careers within Geomatics & Surveying. As our new Field Survey Manager, you will be responsible for training and guiding field teams on the proper use and maintenance of equipment, ensuring the accurate and successful completion of field operations while maintaining the highest standards of integrity.

Leadership and Team Oversight:

  • Direct and manage a survey team in the field, ensuring effective and precise data collection.
  • Delegate tasks to team members, offering guidance and monitoring their performance.
  • Develop the most efficient strategies for data acquisition, starting with primary control and extending to various survey tasks, including topographic surveys, boundary surveys, right-of-way staking, and construction layout.

Field Operations:

  • Utilize and maintain surveying instruments, such as total stations, digital levels, GPS devices, and data collectors.
  • Investigate and analyze land records, legal documents, and historical survey information to establish property boundaries.
  • Set boundary markers and reference points using high-precision surveying methods.
  • Conduct traverses and level loops employing high-accuracy techniques and equipment to establish primary and secondary control.
  • Keep detailed notes, records, and sketches to document and validate work performance.
  • Engage in daily communication with Project Surveyors and CAD technicians regarding project timelines and progress.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and practices in the field, maintaining a strong emphasis on safety, including safe driving, proper equipment usage, site safety, and the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Oversee the maintenance of NV5 company vehicles and equipment.

Data Management and Equipment Care:

  • Transfer collected field data to computer systems for analysis and reporting.
  • Maintain and calibrate surveying instruments to guarantee accurate measurements.
  • Diagnose and perform minor repairs on equipment as necessary.

Client and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to comprehend project requirements and objectives.
  • Provide regular updates on progress and communicate any challenges encountered in the field.
  • Maintain thorough and precise records of survey activities, measurements, and data.
  • Prepare and safeguard field notes and documentation.

Quality Assurance:

  • Verify that survey data complies with project specifications and quality standards.
  • Conduct quality control assessments on collected data and survey documentation.

Professional Growth:

  • Stay informed about advancements in surveying technology and best practices.
  • Pursue ongoing education and training to uphold surveying certifications and licenses.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • An associate's or bachelor's degree in surveying, geomatics, or a related field is advantageous, or relevant work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in land surveying.
  • A minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Proficient in operating and maintaining surveying instruments and software.
  • Strong understanding of surveying methodologies, including boundary determination and topographic mapping.
