JOB OVERVIEW:

The Field Engineer II role is pivotal in delivering installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and training services for FLSmidth Automation systems.

This specialist position focuses on supporting our clients to optimize equipment performance throughout the entire product lifecycle, both on-site and remotely. Frequent short-term travel (up to 50%) is required, often on short notice.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The ideal candidate will operate independently as the technical service expert for FLSmidth Automation equipment.

A strong background in PLCs (Rockwell, Siemens) and Scada (ECS) is essential for successful equipment servicing.


  • Deliver installation, checkout, and commissioning advisory services for FLSmidth equipment.
  • Guide customers in adhering to proper operational and maintenance practices.
  • Conduct troubleshooting of relevant equipment and provide accurate diagnostic evaluations.
  • Develop action plans and priorities to ensure successful project/service completion, providing thorough analysis of issues and realistic solutions.
  • Prepare and present clear, concise written and verbal reports.
  • Facilitate technical training for customers on FLSmidth Automation equipment.
  • Create and present training plans for both internal and external audiences, establishing field standards.
  • Represent FLSmidth professionally, engaging with a diverse range of company and customer personnel to strengthen relationships.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance sales of service programs and spare parts; provide technical support for equipment proposals.
  • Ensure all work is conducted safely and in compliance with applicable safety regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:

Candidates should possess a minimum of 3 years of experience with PLC systems, including Rockwell and Siemens, as well as HMIs and Scada systems.

Specific competencies for this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft OS and Server Hardware/Software, Network/Switch setup, and knowledge of Virtualization for Servers and Stations.
  • Effective communication skills with customers, contractors, colleagues, and suppliers.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively on service sites.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing work schedules and assignment locations.
  • Capability to develop and deliver technical training seminars to diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with business software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid USA passport or foreign passport with USA work authorization.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:

A Bachelor's degree in automation, software, or computer science engineering is required. Candidates with an Associate degree in similar fields may also be considered.

Significant relevant industry experience may substitute for formal education in special cases, at the discretion of the hiring manager (high school diploma or equivalent required).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This role requires:
Frequent standing, use of hands for handling or feeling, and frequent communication. Occasional sitting, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and sensory activities. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work is conducted in cement production and minerals processing facilities, necessitating the ability to work in extreme temperatures and traverse distances of up to 1/2 mile multiple times daily, including navigating stairs and machinery.

Employees may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and various weather conditions.

Occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions, high places, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, temperature extremes, electrical hazards, and vibrations may occur.

The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate, requiring frequent travel and extended periods away from home.
