Job Overview

The Field Service Specialist for Parking and Transit Services (PTS) is responsible for managing customer interactions at a busy parking facility. This role involves ensuring that all parking equipment, including gate mechanisms, ticket dispensers, intercom systems, and payment computers, are functioning properly. The specialist will also provide essential information regarding campus navigation, parking options, and general assistance to faculty, staff, students, and visitors.

Work Environment
  • Operate an ASU vehicle or cart safely, frequently entering and exiting the vehicle.
  • Must maintain a valid US Driver's license with the necessary endorsements throughout employment.
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions, requiring prolonged standing and walking, as well as lifting and moving items up to 35 pounds.
  • Utilize a two-way radio for effective communication.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and resolve conflicts as they arise.
  • Occasionally work in an office setting, involving extended periods of sitting and computer use.
  • Work locations may vary.
  • Communicate clearly to fulfill essential job functions.
  • Be prepared to work in extreme weather conditions, including heat and cold.
Background Check Requirement

All candidates must undergo a pre-employment screening process, which includes a criminal background check and verification of work history, education, licenses, and certifications. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of this process.

Minimum Qualifications

At least one to two years of customer service experience in a frontline service role, or an equivalent combination of experience and education that demonstrates comparable skills and knowledge.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience handling credit card transactions in a high-volume retail or service environment.
  • Two years of experience in a fast-paced service setting.
  • Familiarity with parking operations at universities, cities, or airports, including maintenance of electronic and mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Valid Class D driver's license; a Motor Vehicle Record check will be conducted.
  • Experience working outdoors.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Assist customers with the use of parking equipment at pay-on-foot locations.
  • Provide exceptional customer service with a positive and professional demeanor.
  • Greet customers warmly and maintain a professional appearance and communication style.
  • Utilize parking software to facilitate payment options.
  • Document activities and report maintenance issues to supervisors.
  • Respond to intercom calls and communicate via radio and telephone.
  • Offer general campus information, including directions and parking alternatives.
  • Perform minor cleaning and maintenance of parking equipment.
  • Manage traffic flow during peak times to ensure efficient entry and exit.
  • Monitor parking space availability and assist with event accommodations as needed.
  • Drive university vehicles to various locations as required.
  • Conduct analyses and prepare reports on operations.
  • Assist motorists and complete necessary documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
