Job Summary:

The Emergency Medical Services Lab Educator plays a pivotal role in the training and development of students enrolled in the Paramedicine program. This position is responsible for supporting the lead instructor in organizing and conducting laboratory sessions essential for the education of future EMS professionals.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Assist in the delivery of EMT and Paramedic laboratory courses.
  2. Work under the guidance of the Paramedicine Program Director.
  3. Prepare laboratory settings for instructional sessions and ensure proper cleanup post-activities.
  4. Exhibit safe and correct usage of laboratory tools and manage hazardous materials responsibly.
  5. Serve as a mentor and positive role model for students.
  6. Participate in annual program meetings.
  7. Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

Education: High school diploma

Experience:
  • At least one year of practical experience with an EMS organization at the level of certification to be taught.
  • Current National Registry of EMTs certification as an EMT or Paramedic.
  • Valid state EMT or Paramedic license.
  • AHA BLS Provider certification (or equivalent training approved by the program).
  • AHA ACLS Provider certification (for Paramedics only) (or equivalent training approved by the program).
  • AHA PALS/PEPP Provider certification (for Paramedics only) (or equivalent training approved by the program).
  • Flexibility to work varied hours to meet educational objectives.
Preferred Experience:
  • Prior teaching or field training experience.
  • Familiarity with educational technology and simulation tools.
  • Knowledge of Emergency Medical Responder, EMT, Advanced EMT, and Paramedic skills and practices.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to effectively educate and support students in mastering essential Paramedicine skills.
  • Capability to assess student performance accurately.
  • Competence in conducting both formative and summative evaluations of student learning.
  • Ability to foster a positive educational environment, demonstrating professionalism in all interactions.
  • Collaboration skills to work with EMS agencies to achieve program goals.
  • Adaptability in applying laboratory methods and practices.
  • Commitment to following health and safety protocols.
  • Self-sufficiency in performing tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with a focus on clarity and professionalism.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
  • Dedication to providing excellent service and representing the institution positively.
  • Demonstrated ethical and professional conduct.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, in a dynamic setting.
  • Engagement with the public through various communication channels.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to perform tasks in laboratory simulations and classroom settings.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 75 lbs. unassisted, and to engage in activities such as bending, standing, and walking.
  • Ability to handle and dispose of hazardous materials safely while using appropriate personal protective equipment.
