Position Overview

This role is part of the Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) and involves assisting in various departments within the library. Student employees may work in areas such as Advancement & Communications, Archives & Special Collections, Information Desk, Innovation Studio, Interlibrary Loan, Metadata & Cataloging, Research & Learning, or Stacks Management.

Work Schedule
  • Up to 20 hours per week.
Department Overview

The Stack Management department of Chambers Library is responsible for the upkeep of the Main, Multimedia, and Government Documents collections, ensuring that library resources are accessible to the university community. Chambers Library is dedicated to connecting the community with a variety of resources and services that foster transformative learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities

As a Stack Management student assistant, your duties will include:
  • Organizing, shelving, and maintaining books and other materials.
  • Scanning and straightening collections.
  • Conducting routine maintenance of library collections.
  • Overseeing study rooms and common areas on multiple floors.
Effective communication skills are essential, along with the ability to arrange materials according to call number order. The role may require some physical activity, including lifting, bending, and reaching for materials on higher shelves, as well as moving book trucks.

Enrollment Requirements

Fall/Spring Semesters: To qualify for this position, students must be enrolled at least half-time. For graduate students, this means a minimum of 5 credit hours, while undergraduates must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours. International students are required to maintain full-time enrollment.

Summer Semester: Students must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to work during the summer. Those not enrolled in summer classes must be registered for fall classes to maintain eligibility. Additionally, students in FWSP positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours (undergraduates) or 5 credit hours (graduates) during the summer.

FWSP Eligibility

To be considered for the Federal Work Study Program, students must have received a work study award through the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships and must accept this award in the university's system. Note that the summer FWSP award requires a separate application process.
