Financial Systems Accountant

Overview

The Financial Systems Accountant is responsible for applying fundamental accounting principles (GAAP) to manage and uphold financial transaction records. This role involves analyzing and interpreting financial data, computing, classifying, recording, and auditing financial information while ensuring compliance with accounting and financial reporting standards. The position requires maintaining ledgers and supporting documentation across various accounting functions, examining and interpreting accounting records for management purposes, and delivering high-quality support services to all management levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize accounting methodologies, regulations, and standard practices for the classification and documentation of financial data.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the organization's accounting and financial reporting policies as they pertain to assigned tasks.
  • Stay informed about relevant events, regulations, and transactions that may influence financial reporting and specific duties (e.g., tax laws, sales tax regulations).
  • Gather, audit, process, and maintain detailed records for each entity, accurately reflecting its financial status.
  • Prepare supporting spreadsheets and conduct account analyses as necessary, ensuring timely completion and resolution of discrepancies.
  • Complete tax filings (local, state, federal) such as Sales and Use Tax, W-2s, 1099s, etc., including the preparation of supporting schedules and reconciliations to the general ledger.
  • Engage in the internal and/or external audit processes as required.
  • Collaborate with and respond to all internal and external customer inquiries promptly.
  • Undertake special projects and assignments from management as directed.

Qualifications

Essential:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting

Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), taxation practices, and a strong understanding of internal control practices.


Substitution:

A Bachelor's Degree in a related field with three years of relevant accounting experience (preferably in healthcare) or an Associate's Degree in Accounting with four years of relevant accounting experience may substitute for a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
