Qualifications Required:
To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Essential Educational Background:
A. A degree encompassing at least 24 semester hours in behavioral or social sciences.
OR
B. A combination of education and experience that includes at least 24 semester hours in behavioral or social sciences, equating to knowledge comparable to a 4-year degree.
Educational Evaluation:
Courses such as sociology, correctional administration, criminal justice, political science, psychology, social work, counseling, and other relevant fields may fulfill the 24-semester-hour requirement.
Experience Evaluation:
Relevant experience must include: (1) casework in a correctional facility or similar criminal justice environment; (2) counseling in any context requiring diagnostic or treatment planning skills; or (3) work involving the treatment of individuals needing social rehabilitation.
Additional Requirements:
Beyond the basic qualifications, candidates must possess:
Educational Experience:
Three years of progressively advanced graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in corrections or a related field, such as criminal justice, sociology, psychology, counseling, or social work.
OR
Professional Experience:
At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service, equipping the candidate with the necessary qualifications to perform the duties of this position.
Examples of Relevant Experience:
- Facilitating gender-responsive and trauma-informed processes, fostering group thinking, and enabling open communication.
- Designing and planning objectives for group sessions that are gender-responsive and trauma-informed, while monitoring and adjusting the group process as needed.
- Identifying and addressing underlying conflicts among participants to enhance group dynamics.
Combination of Education and Experience:
Combinations of graduate-level education and specialized experience may be utilized to meet total experience requirements. Only graduate education exceeding the minimum requirement for the next lower grade may be combined with experience.
Credit will be granted for both paid and unpaid experience, and candidates must provide details of the actual time spent in relevant activities.
