Position Overview
The Lead Loan Accounting Specialist role provides essential support to AgriBank and its District entities in areas such as cash management, general ledger accounting, and both retail and wholesale loan accounting. This position involves monitoring and reconciling general ledger accounts, preparing journal entries, troubleshooting issues, and performing various accounting responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Wholesale Loan Management:
    Processes and reconciles daily cash settlements for clients using off-loan accounting and general ledger systems.
  • Ensures that clients' cash clearing accounts remain within established thresholds.
  • Adjusts calculations to guarantee accurate interest expense on wholesale loans.
  • Creates and maintains wholesale loan records, ensuring commitment details are accurately entered into the loan accounting system.
  • Calculates the MCD rate for wholesale loans and updates the system accordingly.
  • Communicates necessary changes to stakeholders regarding wholesale notes.
  • Handles processing of wholesale and retail fees.
  • Retail Loan Management:
    Establishes customer records and commitment details as required.
  • Sets up loans based on specifications from loan officers and requests additional information when necessary.
  • Utilizes FPS to create rate locks and provides rate quotes.
  • Analyzes and processes monetary transactions in line with contract stipulations.
  • Investigates discrepancies and determines suitable resolutions.
  • Prepares and reviews various weekly and monthly loan accounting reports.
  • Conducts asset pool accounting functions, including loan setups and reporting.
  • Accounting Support:
    Administers the reconciliation system and assists team members with bank balancing.
  • Account Reconciliation:
    Monitors and reconciles assigned accounts on a regular basis.
  • Identifies and resolves reconciling items, escalating issues as necessary.
  • Contacts clients or other departments to gather information for issue resolution.
  • Prepares journal entries to correct discrepancies found during reconciliation.
  • Guides team members in cash account reconciliation processes.
  • Conducts weekly reconciliations of wholesale loan disbursement accounts.
  • Addresses issues with clients and the bank, ensuring timely resolutions.
  • Accounting Entries:
    Prepares and executes complex accounting processes for AgriBank and its associations.
  • Coordination of Accounting & Planning:
    Facilitates training for new or promoted team members and updates on revised processes.
  • Develops reporting calendars and outlines daily, weekly, and monthly tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Coordinates requests from various departments and external auditors.
  • Reviews and submits requested deliverables to relevant parties.
  • Project and Process Enhancements:
    Participates in project teams across the bank and district.
  • Executes test plans and maintains documentation on procedures.
  • Reviews existing processes and recommends improvements.
  • Leads process improvement initiatives as a subject matter expert.
  • Implements enhancements and documents new or revised procedures.
  • Communicates changes to stakeholders effectively.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline.
  • Two years of public accounting experience or five years of relevant experience.
  • CPA designation preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Knowledge and Skills
  • In-depth understanding of accounting principles, including general ledger entries and financial reporting.
  • Proficient in loan accounting and cash operations.
  • Strong grasp of internal controls and GAAP.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software.
  • Intermediate proficiency in enterprise performance management tools.
