Compensation Details

$49.65 per hour at the 593.2 level
$59.49 per hour at the 593.3 level

Please note that the compensation range is a general guideline. Various factors, including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity, influence starting pay.

Position Overview

We are seeking an IT Support Specialist to deliver technical assistance for both unclassified and classified systems within a diverse environment, addressing a range of intricate technical issues promptly. Your responsibilities will include the installation, configuration, security, and maintenance of systems, as well as troubleshooting and resolving system-related challenges. This role is situated within the Information Technology Operations (ITO) Division of the Computing Directorate.

This position necessitates full-time on-site engagement due to the nature of the responsibilities.

This role may be filled at either level based on the knowledge and experience assessed by the hiring team. Additional responsibilities (detailed below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

Your Responsibilities
  • Install new computer hardware and perform upgrades.
  • Set up and configure printers and other peripherals.
  • Install and configure operating systems, security measures, and application software.
  • Ensure computer systems are secure and compliant with Department of Energy (DOE) regulations.
  • Diagnose and resolve moderately complex issues related to systems, printers, and networks.
  • Provide technical support to the user community.
  • Maintain relevant technology, security, and safety training.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities at the 593.3 Level
  • Conduct complex installations and configurations.
  • Diagnose and resolve intricate system and network-related issues.
  • Offer advanced technical support to the user community.
Required Qualifications
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship.
  • Associate's Degree in a computer-related field or equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
  • General knowledge of desktop and/or server hardware and operating systems (e.g., Mac OS and/or Windows OS).
  • Experience in administering, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing Apple and/or Windows systems.
  • Skills in customer support, including effective listening, rapport-building, communication, and a friendly demeanor.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills, with the ability to engage with customers and team members effectively.
  • Familiarity with Mac and/or Windows security protocols for managing user accounts and access control.
Additional Qualifications at the 593.3 Level
  • Advanced knowledge of Mac and/or Windows operating systems and associated hardware.
  • Extensive experience in creating detailed instructions for repetitive tasks to enhance efficiency.
  • Significant experience in resolving complex system and network-related issues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional certifications in computing (e.g., MCSA, MCSE, CompTIA A+, ACSP).
  • Experience in securing computer systems, drafting security plans, and monitoring compliance with DOE regulations.
  • General understanding of network hardware, software, protocols, and principles.

Security Clearance Requirement

This position necessitates a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. If selected, a Federal background investigation will be initiated to determine eligibility for access to classified information. All L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing

External candidates selected for this position must successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment drug test, which includes testing for marijuana use, as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Mobile Device Policy

In accordance with DOE regulations, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory must adhere to specific restrictions regarding the use and/or possession of mobile devices in Limited Areas. Depending on job responsibilities, you may be required to work in a Limited Area where personal and/or laboratory mobile devices are prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, cell phones, tablets, fitness devices, and wireless headphones. If you utilize a medical device that pairs with a mobile device, you must still comply with the mobile device regulations in Limited Areas. Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities require separate approval. Hearing aids without wireless capabilities or those with wireless disabled are permitted in Limited Areas, Secure Space, and Transit/Buffer Space within buildings.
