Position Overview:
Employees in this role will be scheduled for a maximum of twenty-four (24) hours per week.

The County Security Officer, operating under general supervision, is responsible for maintaining safety and security at the Hall of Justice and all properties owned by the County.

In this capacity, personnel will conduct screenings for weapons and other prohibited items as mandated, enforce applicable State and Federal laws on County properties, prepare detailed reports of incidents, and transport individuals to and from court and medical facilities. Additionally, the officer may execute arrests if necessary while fulfilling their duties and perform other related responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:
Applicants must possess an Associate's Degree from an accredited institution, including the successful completion of at least thirty (30) credit hours in Police Science or Criminal Justice.

Special Requirements:
At the time of application, candidates must:
- Be a bona fide resident of the State of Michigan for a minimum of one (1) year prior to appointment;
- Demonstrate good moral character as assessed through a comprehensive background evaluation;
- Be a citizen of the United States;
- Be Bondable;
- Hold a valid Michigan driver's license with a clean driving record;
- Maintain good physical fitness;


Disqualifications:
Applicants must not have been convicted of:
- Any felony violations;
- Three (3) moving violations within the last 24 months;
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
- Two (2) or more reckless driving violations or one (1) reckless driving incident with aggravating circumstances;
- Loss of driving privileges due to suspension or revocation of any driving license.

Any moving violations, accidents, or non-moving violations that indicate poor driving habits or disregard for the law may also disqualify an applicant.


Note:

Convictions of this nature may not automatically disqualify an applicant if they occurred between the ages of 17 and 20, provided that at least five (5) years have elapsed without further incidents.

Physical Requirements:
Employees in this position must be physically capable of occasionally lifting and carrying objects or individuals weighing over one hundred (100) pounds, as well as standing, walking, or running for extended periods.

Work Environment:
This role involves performing duties under various environmental conditions, including office settings and traveling throughout County properties in all weather conditions.

Evaluation Process:
The selected candidate will be required to undergo a post-offer medical examination (including a back screen and complete physical) and a drug screening conducted by a County-appointed physician prior to the commencement of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon the results of these evaluations.

Applicants may also be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature of the position. Offers of employment will be contingent upon the results of this background check. New hires must successfully complete a probationary period before their appointment is considered permanent.

Applicant Review Procedure:
All applicants have the right to review any determinations or actions taken by the County regarding their employment application. Inquiries should be directed to the County Human Resources Department.

Purpose:
This recruitment aims to establish an eligible list for filling current and future vacancies in this classification within the County system. For each opening, the Department Head has the discretion to select candidates who meet the required minimum qualifications. This list remains valid for three months unless it is exhausted or extended.
