Position Overview:
The Chief Facilities Officer is accountable for overseeing all facets of the Physical Plant, which encompasses financial management, human resources, and the strategic planning and execution of construction and renovation projects. This role is vital in maintaining the integrity of existing buildings and grounds, optimizing energy management systems, and implementing sustainability initiatives to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the overall operations of the Physical Plant, ensuring compliance with safety and security protocols.
- Support the long-term strategic planning for campus facilities and infrastructure.
- Direct personnel management processes, including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and staff development.
- Administer the annual operating and capital budget for facilities, ensuring fiscal responsibility and resource allocation.
- Oversee campus improvement initiatives, including renovation projects and compliance with accessibility standards.
- Foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders, providing expert consultation on facilities-related matters.
- Implement and maintain effective preventative maintenance programs to enhance operational efficiency.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure adherence to regulatory standards and institutional policies.
- Identify and pursue grant opportunities to support facilities enhancements and sustainability efforts.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field is required; a Master’s Degree is preferred.
- Extensive experience in facilities management, with a preference for engineering expertise in structural, civil, or mechanical disciplines.
- Proven track record of at least five years in a supervisory role within a complex facilities environment.
- Strong knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
Work Environment:
The role is primarily office-based, with occasional travel required to various campus locations. The position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
