Position Overview

The Behavioral Support Specialist, operating under general oversight, engages in various community mental health environments, local neighborhoods, and family residences. This role is dedicated to delivering personalized services that encompass comprehensive or targeted behavioral interventions for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, neurological challenges, or other developmental disabilities.

Key Responsibilities

The individual in this position undertakes a range of paraprofessional tasks that necessitate a foundational understanding of the mental health sector and behavior analysis principles. Responsibilities include:
  • Collaborating with a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) to provide services related to behavioral evaluations, treatment strategy formulation, and the execution of documented behavior plans.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must:
  • Have completed high school or possess a General Education Development (GED) certificate.
  • Hold a valid driver's license and be able to secure a Michigan Driver License within 30 days of employment.
  • Have dependable transportation available for job-related duties.

Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following are advantageous:
  • At least one year of experience working with young children or individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Bilingual abilities are highly valued.
  • Personal experiences with mental health challenges, developmental disabilities, or substance use disorders are appreciated.
  • Individuals in recovery and those with military service experience are encouraged to apply.

Physical Requirements

The Behavioral Support Specialist must maintain good physical health to:
  • Lift objects weighing 35 pounds or more.
  • Stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Assist consumers in transferring from wheelchairs to other surfaces as necessary.
  • Execute physical intervention techniques as per agency training.

Work Environment

This role involves working in diverse community settings and family homes. Candidates must be prepared to drive and travel to various locations.
