Position Overview:

  • Controls Engineering Specialist for Afternoon Shift, focusing on Transmission Assembly and Machining processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Enhance and optimize control systems and machinery by utilizing Factory Information Systems (FIS) data.
  • Lead initiatives to diagnose and resolve equipment performance challenges.
  • Coordinate troubleshooting efforts; manage resources to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Support the training of manufacturing staff and plant electricians.
  • Facilitate the integration of control systems with IT frameworks such as Factory Information Systems (FIS), Error Proofing, QWX, and QTS.
  • Diagnose issues related to machinery, robotics, automation, and control systems, minimizing downtime.
  • Utilize FIS plant monitoring software to analyze equipment cycle times.
  • Oversee and coordinate project installations.
  • Reprogram machinery for engineering modifications and enhancements; maintain backups of automation programs.

Required Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in Controls Engineering within a manufacturing setting.
  • At least 3 years of proficiency in PLC logic, controls, and programming with Siemens and Modicon.
  • A strong interest in controls engineering with a proven ability to quickly learn and apply technical knowledge.
  • Hands-on experience with assembly and machining control architectures (both hardware and software).
  • Familiarity with programming principles for Siemens, Schneider, Bosch PLCs, as well as CNC and Motion control systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot PLC, CNC, robotic, and other automation-related issues.
  • Knowledge of cell machining systems and the integration of CNC controls, gantries, and auxiliary equipment is advantageous.
  • Understanding of ABB/FANUC robotics.
  • Experience with assembly and machining RFID systems, including complexity management and QOS strategies.
  • Familiarity with Vision Systems.
  • Awareness of international electrical and safety standards (UL, ISO, IEC, etc.) and familiarity with safety processes (risk assessments, PSS, integrated safety, etc.).
  • Capability to interpret controls (electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic) schematics.
  • Understanding of communication network architectures and field bus protocols.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience collaborating with senior management, process engineering, safety, IT, and production teams.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed with strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • A solid manufacturing background with a significant focus on production-related controls experience. Willingness to work off-shift or in a 4-crew environment.

Educational Background:
  • High School Diploma is required.

Preferred Education:
  • Associate's Degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering; Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering is a plus.
