Position: Engineering Specialist - Controls for Transmission Assembly and Machining
Shift: Afternoon
Key Responsibilities:
· Innovate and enhance control systems and machinery utilizing Factory Information Systems (FIS) data.
· Spearhead troubleshooting efforts to address equipment performance challenges.
· Direct problem-solving initiatives; organize resources to identify root causes and implement solutions, breaking down issues into manageable components.
· Support the training of manufacturing staff and plant electricians.
· Facilitate the integration of control systems with IT frameworks such as Factory Information Systems (FIS), Error Proofing, QWX, and QTS.
· Diagnose machinery, robotics, automation, and control-related issues to minimize downtime.
· Employ FIS plant monitoring tools to analyze equipment cycle times.
· Oversee and coordinate project installations.
· Reprogram machinery for engineering modifications and enhancements; maintain program backups for automation and machinery.
Qualifications:
· Minimum of 3 years of experience in Controls Engineering within a manufacturing setting.
· At least 3 years of experience with PLC logic, controls, and programming in Siemens and Modicon.
· Strong interest in controls engineering with a quick learning aptitude for applying controls knowledge.
· Direct programming experience with assembly and machining control architectures (hardware/software).
· Proficient in programming principles for Siemens, Schneider, Bosch PLCs, as well as CNC/Motion control systems.
· Skilled in troubleshooting PLC, CNC, robotics, and other automation challenges.
· Familiarity with cell machining systems and the integration of CNC controls, gantries, and auxiliary equipment is advantageous.
· Knowledge of ABB/FANUC robotics.
· Understanding of assembly and machining RFID systems, including complexity management and QOS strategies.
· Proficient in Vision Systems.
· Knowledge of international electrical/safety standards (UL, ISO, IEC, etc.) and familiarity with safety processes (risk assessments, PSS, integrated safety, etc.).
· Ability to interpret controls (electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic) schematics.
· Understanding of communication network architectures and field bus protocols.
Preferred Experience:
· Experience collaborating with senior management, process engineering, safety, IT, and production teams.
· Self-motivated and self-directed with excellent influential, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
· Strong manufacturing background with a focus on production-related controls experience.
· Willingness to work off-shift or in a 4-crew schedule.
Education Requirements:
· High School Diploma.
Preferred Education:
· Associate's Degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering; Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering.
