Position Overview

Automation Controls Specialist - Afternoon Shift

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enhance and optimize control systems and machinery utilizing Factory Information Systems (FIS) data.
  • Drive resolution of equipment performance challenges through effective problem-solving techniques.
  • Oversee troubleshooting efforts; coordinate resources to identify root causes and implement solutions, breaking down issues into manageable components.
  • Support the training initiatives for manufacturing staff and plant electricians.
  • Facilitate the integration of control systems with IT frameworks such as Factory Information Systems (FIS), Error Proofing, QWX, and QTS.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to machinery, robotics, automation, and control systems.
  • Utilize FIS plant monitoring tools to analyze equipment cycle times.
  • Manage and oversee project installations.
  • Reprogram machinery for engineering modifications and enhancements, ensuring program backups for automation systems are maintained.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in Controls Engineering within a manufacturing setting.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience with PLC logic, control systems, and programming in Siemens and Modicon.
  • A strong interest in controls engineering, demonstrating a quick learning ability and application of controls knowledge.
  • Direct programming experience with assembly and machining control architectures (both hardware and software).
  • Familiarity with programming principles for Siemens, Schneider, Bosch PLCs, as well as CNC and Motion control systems.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting PLC, CNC, robotic, and other automation-related issues.
  • Understanding of cell machining systems and the integration of CNC controls, gantries, and auxiliary equipment is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of ABB/FANUC robotics.
  • Experience with assembly and machining RFID systems, including complexity management and QOS strategies.
  • Familiarity with Vision Systems.
  • Awareness of international electrical and safety standards (UL, ISO, IEC, etc.) and familiarity with safety processes (risk assessments, PSS, integrated safety, etc.).
  • Ability to interpret controls prints (electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic).
  • Understanding of communication network architectures and field bus protocols.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience collaborating with senior management, process engineering, safety, IT, and production teams.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed with strong organizational, influential, and interpersonal skills.
  • A robust manufacturing background with a significant focus on production-related controls experience.
  • Willingness to work off-shift or in a 4-crew environment.

Educational Background:

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Preferred: Associate's degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering, or a Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Controls Engineering.
