Position Overview:

We are in search of a seasoned and proactive Vice President of Risk Management to lead the risk management initiatives within our mortgage operations division. This pivotal role will encompass overseeing all facets of risk management, including counterparty risk, repurchase demands, quality assurance, and credit policy functions. The Vice President will play a crucial role in identifying, evaluating, and mitigating risks to uphold the financial integrity, compliance, and operational effectiveness of the organization. The ideal candidate will possess a strategic mindset and a comprehensive understanding of the mortgage sector, along with the capability to guide and influence cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Risk Management:
    • Formulate and execute extensive risk management strategies to pinpoint, evaluate, and mitigate risks associated with mortgage loan origination.
    • Define risk appetite and tolerance levels that align with the strategic goals of the organization.
    • Supervise counterparty risk management to ensure the financial soundness and dependability of all counterparties.
    • Lead initiatives to effectively address and manage repurchase demands.
    • Identify, assess, and prioritize potential risks across various business units, including credit, operational, market, liquidity, regulatory, and reputational risks.
    • Conduct routine risk assessments and stress testing to gauge the impact of diverse scenarios on the business.
    • Monitor both external and internal risk factors, including regulatory changes, economic conditions, and industry trends.
    • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and action plans to tackle identified risks.
    • Oversee the establishment of effective internal controls, policies, and procedures.
    • Stay informed on regulatory updates and industry advancements to ensure the effectiveness of risk management practices.
    • Establish and maintain robust risk monitoring and reporting systems.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Develop and uphold a comprehensive quality assurance framework to ensure the highest standards of loan quality and compliance.
    • Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary corrective actions.
    • Collaborate with operational teams to enhance loan quality and reduce defects.
  • Credit Policy:
    • Formulate and maintain credit policies and guidelines that comply with regulatory standards and industry best practices.
    • Analyze credit performance and recommend policy adjustments as required.
    • Ensure consistent application of credit policies across all channels and manage exceptions appropriately.
  • Leadership and Collaboration:
    • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the risk management, quality assurance, repurchase, and credit policy teams.
    • Work alongside executive leadership to align risk management strategies with the overall business objectives.
    • Promote a culture of risk awareness and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
    • Collaborate with the Chief Compliance Officer to ensure adherence to all relevant regulations and best practices.
    • Engage with other departments, including finance, legal, compliance, and operations, to ensure a unified approach to risk management.
    • Deliver regular updates to the executive team regarding risk exposures, mitigation strategies, and emerging risks.
    • Ensure timely and accurate communication of risk-related information to stakeholders.
    • Lead and mentor the risk management team, fostering a culture of accountability and risk awareness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, or a related field (Advanced degree preferred).
  • A minimum of 7 years of extensive experience in risk management within the mortgage or financial services sector.
  • A proven history of developing and implementing effective risk management strategies and managing counterparty risk, repurchase demands, quality assurance, and credit policy functions.
  • In-depth knowledge of mortgage lending requirements, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Outstanding leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • A high level of integrity and ethical standards.
  • Moderate travel may be required.
