Your Role and Responsibilities

The Lead Bridge Inspection Specialist will oversee the execution of bridge safety evaluations and related structural assessments in compliance with NBIS and PennDOT Pub 238. This position will collaborate closely with the Project Manager to ensure that all inspections, budgetary considerations, and quality standards are upheld. The role will also involve supervising Team Assistants as they conduct inspections, compile reports, and ensure project completion.

Key Duties Include:

  • Conducting inspections of structures in alignment with NBIS and Pub 238 guidelines.
  • Coordinating and scheduling inspection teams to ensure timely completion of evaluations and reports.
  • Identifying structural deficiencies, assessing their conditions, and accurately coding findings in i-forms.
  • Recommending appropriate repairs for identified deficiencies.
  • Maintaining detailed records of structural conditions using i-forms and BMS2.
  • Engaging with clients, such as Township Supervisors and Road Masters, to provide insights on structural conditions.
  • Utilizing hand tools to remove defective materials for thorough evaluations of individual structural components.
  • Employing ladders, hydraulic lifts, and under-bridge cranes to access hard-to-reach areas of structures.
  • Applying measuring instruments and non-destructive testing techniques.
  • Summarizing field data and conducting load rating analyses.
  • Compiling analyses and providing recommendations for Bridge Load Posting Summaries.
  • Overseeing subcontractors for traffic management and rigging operations.
  • Guiding Bridge Inspection Team Assistants to ensure precise and thorough evaluations of structural conditions.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline is strongly preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of five (5) years in bridge inspection, either as an Assistant or Team Leader.
  • Certifications: CBSI certification is mandatory.

Travel Requirements: Must be willing to travel statewide as necessary to conduct inspections, which may occasionally require overnight stays.

Preferred Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, or Microsoft Office Suite is advantageous.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to follow directions and collaborate effectively.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt.
