Your Role and Contributions

The Lead Bridge Inspection Specialist will oversee bridge safety evaluations and related structural assessments, adhering to NBIS and PennDOT Pub 238 standards. This position collaborates closely with the Project Manager to ensure that all inspections, budgets, and quality benchmarks are achieved. The role includes supervising Team Assistants in conducting inspections, compiling reports, and ensuring project completion.

Key Duties

  • Conducts inspections of structures following NBIS and Pub 238 guidelines.
  • Schedules and coordinates inspection teams to ensure timely completion of evaluations and reports.
  • Identifies structural deficiencies, assesses their conditions, and accurately codes findings in i-forms.
  • Recommends appropriate repairs for identified deficiencies.
  • Maintains detailed records of structural conditions using i-forms and BMS2.
  • Engages with clients, including Township Supervisors and Road Masters, to discuss structural conditions.
  • Utilizes hand tools to remove defective materials for thorough evaluations.
  • Employs ladders, hydraulic lifts, and under-bridge cranes to access hard-to-reach areas of structures.
  • Applies measuring instruments and non-destructive testing techniques.
  • Summarizes field data and conducts load rating analyses.
  • Prepares analyses and recommends Bridge Load Posting Summaries.
  • Oversees subcontractors for traffic management and rigging operations.
  • Guides Bridge Inspection Team Assistants in producing accurate evaluations of structural conditions.

Qualifications

  • Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline is strongly preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of five (5) years in bridge inspection, either as an Assistant or Team Leader.
  • Certifications: CBSI certification is required.

Travel Requirements

Willingness to travel across the state as necessary for inspections, with occasional overnight stays.

Preferred Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, or Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to follow directions and a willingness to learn.
