Role Summary:

We are currently seeking an Elementary Associate Teacher for the upcoming academic year. This role involves supporting classroom dynamics, assisting in large group instruction, and leading small group sessions throughout the day according to a structured schedule. We are looking for passionate individuals who promote a culture of success, engage in thorough lesson preparation, and value constructive feedback for continuous growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Classroom Environment

  • Assist in creating a productive and engaging classroom atmosphere that fosters relationships among students.
  • Establish effective classroom routines and systems aligned with the DC Scholars ethos.
  • Oversee arrival, dismissal, and transitions in the hallways.

Utilize DC Scholars' cultural frameworks to provide constructive feedback to students, adhering to our PATH values (Prepared, Attentive, Thoughtful, Hardworking) and implement our behavioral management strategies.

Collaborate with the General Education Teacher to facilitate Morning Meetings in accordance with the DC Scholars approach and manage lunch and recess periods.

Instructional Support

  • Assist in delivering whole group instruction alongside the General Education Teacher.
  • Lead small group instruction, preparing and executing data-informed lesson plans based on provided materials.
  • Understand and implement individual student plans, including IEPs and 504s, ensuring appropriate modifications and accommodations are made.
  • Participate actively in weekly professional learning community meetings with coaches and colleagues.
  • Analyze student performance data, including exit tickets and assessments, to inform instructional practices.
  • Engage in coaching sessions and respond to feedback in a timely manner.

Family Engagement

  • Monitor student attendance and collaborate with families to enhance student participation.
  • Maintain professional communication with families, attending events and supporting parent conferences.

Community Involvement

  • Exhibit a strong belief in the potential for growth among the organization, colleagues, students, and oneself.
  • Complete assigned tasks within established deadlines.
  • Adhere to professional standards regarding attire, punctuality, and attendance.
  • Communicate effectively and promptly, following organizational norms for responsiveness.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma required.
  • 1-2 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience working with students from underserved communities is preferred.
