Role Summary:

We are currently seeking a Middle School Associate Teacher for the forthcoming academic year. This role involves supporting classroom dynamics, assisting in whole group instruction, and leading small group sessions throughout the day as per the established schedule. Ideal candidates will promote a culture of success, engage in thorough lesson preparation, and appreciate constructive feedback for continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Classroom Environment

  • Assist in creating a vibrant and engaging classroom atmosphere that fosters student relationships.
  • Establish and maintain effective classroom routines and systems aligned with the DC Scholars ethos.
  • Manage student transitions during arrival, dismissal, and in hallways.

Utilize DC Scholars' cultural frameworks to provide constructive feedback to students in accordance with our core values (Prepared, Attentive, Thoughtful, Hardworking) and implement appropriate classroom management strategies.

Collaborate with the General Education Teacher to facilitate Morning Meetings consistent with the DC Scholars approach and oversee lunch and recess periods.

Instructional Support

  • Assist in delivering whole group instruction alongside the General Education Teacher.
  • Lead small group instruction, developing and executing data-informed lesson plans based on provided materials.
  • Understand and implement modifications and accommodations for students with Individualized Learning Plans (IEPs) and 504 plans.
  • Participate actively in weekly professional learning community meetings with coaches and peers.
  • Analyze student performance data, including daily assessments and attendance records, to inform instructional practices.
  • Engage in coaching sessions and respond to feedback in a timely manner.

Family Engagement

  • Monitor and improve student attendance through collaboration with families.
  • Maintain professional communication with families, participating in events and conferences to share academic and behavioral progress.

Community Involvement

  • Exhibit a strong belief in the potential for growth among students, colleagues, and the organization.
  • Complete assigned tasks within established timelines.
  • Adhere to professional standards regarding appearance, punctuality, and attendance.
  • Communicate effectively and consistently, responding to inquiries in accordance with organizational norms.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma required.
  • 1-2 years of relevant professional experience preferred.
  • Experience with students from underserved communities is a plus.
