Position Overview
Reporting to the Senior Scientific Director of Translational Medicine, the Senior Principal Scientist will play a pivotal role within the late-stage Translational Medicine group. This position involves overseeing translational and clinical biomarker initiatives to support drug development across various neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions. The successful candidate will take on biomarker leadership responsibilities, collaborating with study teams to establish biomarker strategies for clinical trials and ensuring the accurate collection, analysis, and reporting of biomarker data.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement biomarker and translational plans specific to programs, assisting in the development of clinical protocols, statistical analysis plans, and lab manuals while coordinating with contract research organizations (CROs) for service execution.
- Identify suitable assays and vendors for clinical biomarkers, managing the outsourcing of biomarker assay development and validation in partnership with Translational Sciences colleagues.
- Oversee the delivery and analysis of clinical biomarker data, ensuring adherence to timelines through collaboration with internal teams and CROs.
- Prepare and present translational and biomarker findings to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain timelines for biomarker-related publications by liaising with the Medical Communications and Publication teams as necessary.
- Stay informed on relevant scientific literature to apply external insights to internal research efforts, serving as a subject-matter expert within the team.
- Collaborate with laboratory scientists and academic thought leaders to address translational questions.
- Participate in post-hoc biomarker analyses and publication initiatives.
- Support regulatory submissions and interactions as required.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Comprehensive understanding of late-stage drug development processes.
- Experience in clinical trial initiation, management, and completion.
- Proven ability to interact with CROs and thought leaders to effectively manage projects and timelines.
- Demonstrated scientific and leadership capabilities, including teamwork, mentoring, and project management.
- Accountability for timelines and deliverables, with a proactive approach to risk management.
- Strong communication skills, with experience in preparing and delivering presentations to various audiences.
- Ability to identify cross-functional issues and provide expert guidance to multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent organizational skills and meticulous record-keeping.
Educational Background
- Bachelor's Degree with 10+ years of relevant experience, or
- Master's Degree with 8+ years of relevant experience, or
- Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in Life Sciences with 6+ years of relevant experience, including 2+ years in a leadership role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in neuroscience or a related discipline.
- 8+ years of experience in academia or biotech.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in clinical biomarker development.
Compensation
The starting compensation for this position ranges from $159,000 to $200,000, in addition to incentive cash and stock opportunities, contingent on eligibility. Final compensation will be determined based on demonstrated experience.
