Position Overview

The Campus Safety Consultant serves as a uniformed, non-sworn representative of the Department of Public Safety, dedicated to ensuring a secure environment on the campus. This role involves providing unarmed security services, offering operational support to Student Security Monitors, and advising the University Community on safe practices, regulations, and policies to foster a secure campus atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communication: Effectively convey relevant laws, regulations, and policies to promote a safe campus.
  • Guidance: Direct and mentor Student Security Monitors in their duties.
  • Training: Deliver field training as required.
  • Safety Escorts: Provide safe-walk services to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Patrol Duties: Conduct regular patrols of campus facilities, including locking and unlocking doors, identifying and reporting security risks, safety hazards, and maintenance issues.
  • Law Enforcement Support: Assist law enforcement in identifying and addressing trespassers.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to medical emergencies, administer first aid, and support overall emergency management efforts.
  • Event Security: Offer general security assistance during campus events and gatherings.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications

Essential Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Capacity to engage with diverse populations and respond sensitively to their needs.
  • Proficient in problem-solving and decision-making to effectively manage conflicts and ensure campus safety.
  • Able to navigate the campus swiftly on foot, including construction areas.
  • Capable of using stairs during emergencies and while patrolling.
  • Ability to remain on post or patrol for the duration of assigned shifts.
  • Trained in First Aid, CPR, and AED administration.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Completion of required certifications within 30 days of employment.
  • Compliance with access requirements for law enforcement sensitive information.
Work Environment

This position may be designated as essential, requiring regular attendance. The employer reserves the right to modify duties as necessary.
