Bethel University is seeking a dedicated Campus Safety Coordinator to oversee the daily security operations on campus. This role is essential in fostering a secure atmosphere, responding to various calls for assistance, and safeguarding the well-being of students, staff, and visitors.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday: midnight - 8:00 AM

Compensation: $20.00/hour to $22.00/hour, commensurate with experience

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular patrols of the campus grounds, both on foot and in a vehicle.
  • Implement and uphold university regulations as required.
  • Respond effectively to emergency and non-emergency situations, including community support, medical crises, fire alarms, and vehicular incidents.
  • Perform scheduled safety inspections, issue parking citations, manage traffic flow, and contribute to the overall safety of the Bethel University community.
  • Prepare comprehensive electronic reports as necessary.
  • Engage in security assessments of individuals exhibiting suspicious conduct.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement, fire services, EMS, and other agencies as needed.
  • Address suspicious activities, unattended belongings, and vehicles in accordance with established protocols.
  • Utilize sound judgment and quick decision-making skills while adhering to university policies and state laws.
  • Maintain effective communication with dispatchers and supervisors regarding significant incidents and activities.
  • Deliver exceptional service to campus visitors and community members consistently.
  • Assist in setting up and dismantling signage, cones, barricades, and other materials for campus events.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong observational skills with the ability to think independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Experience working collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Flexibility in work hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Physical fitness to respond promptly and effectively to emergencies.
  • Ability to complete a rigorous 40-hour behavior detection training program.
  • Completion of use of force and defensive tactics training is required.
  • Basic first aid and CPR certification is necessary.

Experience Requirements:

Required: Minimum of two years in public safety or a related field.

Preferred: Two years of experience in safety or security within higher education.

Educational Qualifications:

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Associate degree in law enforcement or a related discipline.

Additional Information:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and comply with university driving regulations.
  • Working conditions may include patrolling on foot or in a vehicle, and extended periods of sitting at a computer.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift objects weighing over 50 pounds.
  • Shift work is required, with on-call duties that may include nights and weekends.
