Job Overview:

Bethel University is seeking a dedicated Campus Safety Officer to ensure the security and well-being of our campus community. This role involves active patrolling of the campus grounds, assisting various campus departments in fostering a secure atmosphere, and responding to both urgent and routine incidents.


Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday: Midnight - 8:00 AM

Compensation:
Starting at $20.00/hour, commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct proactive patrols of the campus, both on foot and in a vehicle.
  • Enforce university regulations as required.
  • Respond to and manage emergency and non-emergency situations, including medical emergencies and fire alarms.
  • Perform safety inspections and issue parking citations as necessary.
  • Document incidents and activities accurately in electronic reports.
  • Engage with individuals exhibiting suspicious behavior.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement and emergency services when needed.
  • Maintain clear communication with dispatchers and supervisors regarding significant incidents.
  • Provide excellent service to campus visitors and community members.
  • Assist in setting up and dismantling event signage and barriers.

Required Skills:
  • Strong observational skills and the ability to think independently.
  • Experience working collaboratively within a team.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Physical fitness to perform job duties effectively.
  • Completion of a rigorous behavior detection training program.
  • Training in defensive tactics and first aid/CPR.

Experience:
Required: Minimum of two years in public safety or a related field.
Preferred: Two years of experience in safety or security within higher education.

Education:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Associate's degree in law enforcement or a related field.

Additional Information:

Must possess a valid driver's license and comply with university driving policies. The role requires both stationary and mobile duties, including outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Ability to lift objects over 50 pounds is necessary. Shift work is mandatory, and the officer may be required to be on call, including nights and weekends.
