The Engineering division at Univision Communications Inc. is seeking a Chief Technology Officer to lead our dynamic and diverse workforce.

The Chief Technology Officer will oversee and implement the setup, upkeep, and repair of television studio and transmitter apparatus to ensure signal integrity in the market while adhering to all FCC technical standards. Responsibilities also encompass the maintenance of telecommunications apparatus, computing systems, networking frameworks, and the integration of platforms for digital content.

The perfect candidate will have the chance to collaborate with the Univision Engineering team, supporting a premier local market news operation.

This role offers numerous opportunities to engage with systems such as Ross Overdrive production systems, switchers, and SSL audio consoles, along with related terminal equipment and graphics technology.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY

  1. Support and sustain a leading market news production operation.
  2. Ensure station functionality through preventive and corrective maintenance.
  3. Supervise engineering personnel and contractors as required.
  4. Establish and adhere to routine maintenance protocols and schedules for all broadcasting equipment.
  5. Guarantee station compliance with applicable FCC regulations, as well as local, state, and federal laws.
  6. Conduct necessary performance measurements of equipment.
  7. Install and maintain control consoles, routers, recording devices, microphones, digital audio systems, transmitters, antennas, control systems, and remote equipment.
  8. Provide maintenance and support for computer networks and associated systems.
  9. Perform basic HVAC troubleshooting and operational maintenance, including water cooling systems.
  10. Collaborate with the TV news and Operations department to maintain broadcasting equipment as necessary.
  11. Partner with local Finance Lead to formulate and manage Engineering operational budgets and provide insights for monthly and quarterly reporting.
  12. Assist in developing short and long-term strategies to enhance the station's capabilities in alignment with business needs, corporate objectives, and evolving market demands.
  13. Coordinate with corporate engineering on emerging technologies, corporate initiatives, and implementation guidance.

YOU HAVE

  1. A BSEE, BS in Information Technology/Computer Science, or ASEE, or equivalent relevant experience in the Broadcast Industry.
  2. Technical training or experience with a proven track record of success in Broadcast or closely related industries.
  3. FCC General Class License, SBE Certifications, Computer Networking certifications (CompTIA+ or CCNA), and VMWare certification preferred.
  4. Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting high-power TV transmitters and antenna systems, along with in-depth knowledge of ATSC encoding, modulation, and signal analysis methodologies.
  5. Experience supporting Live Television Production activities.
  6. A combination of ten (10) years of Television/Radio Broadcast engineering experience, including supervisory roles in both unionized and non-unionized environments. The successful candidate must possess excellent communication and team leadership skills.
  7. Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays on short notice as required, and as part of on-call broadcast-critical escalation.
  8. A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  9. Strong understanding of relevant FCC rules and regulations.
  10. Proficiency in applicable software packages (Microsoft OS and Office Suite).
  11. Working knowledge of computer networking technology.
  12. Ability to troubleshoot broadcast equipment to the component level.
  13. Familiarity with Ross, SSL, VizRT, and Weather Company software/hardware products is a plus.
  14. Must be a collaborative team player, committed to completing repairs and assignments promptly.
  15. Capability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  16. Knowledge of generators and UPS systems.
  17. Ability to read and interpret design documentation, including elevations, connection diagrams, and schematics.
  18. Ability to maintain documentation to keep pace with changes.
  19. Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
  20. Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and to stand, walk, climb, bend, reach, and sit for up to 8 hours.
