General Engineer/Physical Scientist

This position is responsible for providing technical direction, advice, and guidance to those performing field/facility oversight within the Assistant Manager for Operations (AMO). The successful candidate will serve as the Facility Oversight Program Manager, providing management, integration, leadership, direction, coordination, day-to-day guidance, and implementation of activities within the AMO.
Key Responsibilities- Serves as the FOPM providing technical direction, advice, and guidance to those performing field/facility oversight within AMO.
- Assigns, coordinates, and reviews work assignments and assessments; balances workload among the team; instructs employees on job processes and techniques; and interprets and implements organization policies and procedures.
- Ensures adequate facility coverage; recommends facility assignments and training; assists in coordination with other LFO staff such as ES&H subject matter experts; approves short-term leave requests; provides input to performance ratings and performance objectives; and monitors training and qualification activities.
- Regularly communicates with the AMO, other LFO managers and staff, and the Manager/Deputy Manager on issues impacting LFO, LLNL, and the broader NNSA mission.
- Must meet one of the following:
- ENGINEERING (0801 Series): A degree in engineering from an accredited institution, or B. Combination of education and experience.
- PHYSICAL SCIENCE (1301 Series): A degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, or B. Combination of education and experience.
- Leading technical assessments, audits, or surveillances evaluating compliance with health and safety requirements, conduct of operations, conduct of maintenance, and work planning and control.
- Performing safety analyses/evaluations of hazardous facility operating systems and/or design.
- Preparing reports documenting operational incidents, such as accidents, malfunctions, or non-routine operations.
- Analyzing performance to identify trends, strengths, and weaknesses.
- Conducting routine operational awareness oversight of the day-to-day operations within a nuclear facility.
