Computational Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled Computational Scientist to join our team at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. As a key member of our Applied Physics Section, you will be responsible for developing and implementing advanced computational models and simulations for next-generation fissile materials production.
Key Responsibilities- Model Development: Design and implement complex computational models for fissile materials production using adaptive computing technologies and high-performance computing capabilities.
- Simulation and Analysis: Use machine learning and statistical analysis to couple simulation codes, perform large-scale statistical studies, and generate synthetic machine-learning models.
- Technical Expertise: Provide expert input and technical advice to national security nuclear analysts using a hierarchy of complex computational models.
- Research and Publication: Publish research results in technical and/or peer-reviewed scientific journals, and present results at technical meetings and/or external conferences.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with sponsors and collaborators, and prepare written analyses and verbal briefings to capture and communicate research results.
- Education: PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Computational Science, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Experience: Significant experience developing complex computational physics codes, advanced knowledge and significant experience in developing computational models and simulations, and significant experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning, and/or data analytics.
- Security Clearance: Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q/SCI-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Adaptive Computing Environments: Experience with adaptive computation environments and/or high-performance computing.
- Scientific and Technological Issues: Advanced knowledge and significant experience with the scientific and technological issues associated with national security in one or more of the following areas: nuclear fuel cycle, advanced technology/process model development, isotope production, data analytics, fluid flow, industrial chemical facilities, foreign weapon programs, or related emerging technologies.
