Position Overview

This role is situated within the Office of State and Community Energy Programs at the Department of Energy. As a Budget Analyst, you will leverage your expertise to navigate the complexities of the Department of Energy's budgetary processes, analyzing a wide range of intricate financial operations and functions within designated organizational or programmatic areas.


Key Responsibilities

In your capacity as a Budget Analyst, your contributions will include:

  • Significantly impacting long-term program budgetary strategic planning and performance metrics to effectively forecast and implement multifaceted budgetary activities.
  • Overseeing the comprehensive formulation and timely dissemination of policies, standards, and budgetary guidance materials for utilization by fellow budget analysts and financial personnel within the organization.
  • Delivering program budget presentations to senior management.
  • Leading the preparation and analysis of diverse complex budgetary and financial reports pertinent to the assigned area.
  • Ensuring oversight of DOE budgeting activities to guarantee the judicious and efficient utilization of sanctioned funding, preventing any over or under-expenditure.

Qualifications and Conditions of Employment

To qualify for this position, candidates must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service. This specialized experience encompasses:

  • Providing strategic advice and guidance to program managers on all budget-related matters to ensure alignment across programs.
  • Conducting research on budgetary issues arising from program requirements analysis and recommending effective resolutions.
  • Monitoring the execution of the approved budget to ensure compliance with obligations, expenditures, and availability of sufficient funds.

Experience can include both paid and unpaid roles, including volunteer work through National Service programs or community-based organizations, which can help develop critical competencies and skills applicable to this position.
