ROLE DESCRIPTION
This part-time role within the Kaleidoscope Afterschool Program involves creating a safe, engaging, and educational atmosphere for children during the crucial hours between school dismissal and parental pick-up. The primary goal is to foster a love for learning through play-based activities, encouraging self-awareness, motivation, and confidence in children. Instructors are expected to model positive behavior, facilitate student inquiry, and utilize positive reinforcement techniques. Ongoing training sessions throughout the year are a requirement for this position.

REPORTING STRUCTURE
Reports to: Kaleidoscope Coordinator

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Arrive 30 minutes prior to student arrival to prepare the site and activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design and implement weekly and monthly lesson plans.
  • Document and report any injuries or unusual occurrences to the Kaleidoscope Coordinator within 24 hours.
  • Engage actively with children, providing personal attention and serving as a positive role model.
  • Utilize only positive reinforcement and approved behavioral techniques.
  • Complete a minimum of 10 hours of training annually.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the facility, reporting any necessary repairs or replacements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to meet the physical demands of working with active children.
  • Organized, flexible, passionate, and reliable.
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to work with diverse personalities.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, self-motivated while being collaborative.
  • Experience working with children (personal or professional) is advantageous.
  • This role is suitable for college students pursuing education majors.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

  • Availability required between 2 PM and 6 PM, Monday through Friday (not necessarily all five days).
  • Starting wage is $16 per hour, with a review for salary increase after 30 days of employment.
  • Prior experience with children aged 3-12 is preferred.
