Background: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a humanitarian organization dedicated to providing aid to individuals in crisis situations worldwide. Our Atlanta office plays a vital role in resettling refugees and asylees, offering essential services to facilitate their integration into the community.

Scope of Work: The Youth Futures Program Intern will support refugee and asylee youth at Clarkston High School through academic assistance and social-emotional learning programs. The intern will collaborate closely with IRC staff to deliver afterschool programs and activities, promoting students' academic success and social well-being.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with afterschool programs for high school students, providing academic support and guidance.
  • Support program delivery and logistics, ensuring smooth operations.
  • Engage with students to provide social support, mentorship, and encouragement.
  • Provide administrative support as needed, contributing to the efficient functioning of the program.
  • Assist with college applications and job searches, helping students achieve their goals.
  • Plan and prepare for program events, fostering a positive and inclusive environment.
  • Build mentoring relationships with youth, promoting their personal growth and development.
  • Enter data into databases, ensuring accurate records and reporting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the program.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Interest in international and refugee issues, with a desire to make a positive impact.
  • Creativity and initiative in projects, with a willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Desire to help people in a multicultural setting, with a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Experience working with youth is preferred, as is familiarity with educational systems.
  • Computer literacy is required, with proficiency in relevant software and tools.

Requirements:

  • Submit intern hours on the volunteer portal, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting.
  • Pass a background check, meeting the organization's security requirements.
  • Commit to 15 hours per week for a minimum of 3 months, demonstrating reliability and dedication.
  • Must be at least 18 years old, meeting the minimum age requirement.

This is an in-person role with the flexibility of remote work at times, with the placement site accessible by public transit. The intern will report to the Youth Futures Coordinator, working closely with the team to achieve program goals.
