The Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team at Dexcom is dedicated to empowering our software development teams to create and maintain highly reliable systems that support health management. We thrive on hands-on experimentation and continuous learning.

Your Role:

We are looking for a highly skilled and proactive Senior Site Reliability Engineering Lead to spearhead our initiatives in constructing and sustaining cutting-edge, reliable systems.

As a senior figure within our SRE team, you will play a crucial role in promoting technical excellence, refining our reliability engineering methodologies, and ensuring exceptional customer experiences through resilient and efficient systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership:

  • Architect and execute sophisticated solutions aimed at enhancing system reliability and performance.
  • Champion the integration of advanced technologies and practices to boost system resilience and scalability.
  • Oversee intricate projects, ensuring alignment with technical excellence and organizational objectives.
Hands-On Engineering and Innovation:
  • Engage in hands-on coding, directly contributing to essential system components, observability as code, and automation tools, dedicating approximately 75% of your time to this.
  • Explore and innovate new strategies to elevate system reliability, performance, and efficiency.
  • Remain at the forefront of SRE practices, consistently incorporating new ideas and technologies into our systems.
Mentorship and Team Development:
  • Guide and mentor team members, fostering a culture of excellence and ongoing learning.
  • Share knowledge and insights to enhance the technical capabilities of the entire SRE team.
  • Lead by example, exemplifying best practices in coding, system architecture, and operational excellence.
Incident Management and Prevention:
  • Oversee critical incident management processes, ensuring swift and effective resolutions.
  • Examine system performance and incidents to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Devise and implement proactive strategies to avert system failures and enhance overall reliability.
  • Promote a blameless culture of continuous learning and development.
What Makes You Successful:
  • Extensive experience in a Site Reliability Engineering role or a similar capacity, demonstrating a strong record of technical leadership.
  • Proficiency in contemporary SRE tools, technologies, and methodologies, including Kubernetes and GitOps-driven pipelines.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to design and implement complex systems.
  • Strong programming and automation skills, with a hands-on approach.
  • Excellent communication and mentorship abilities, capable of leading and inspiring teams.
  • Preferred additional skills: GitHub Actions, Helm, Argo CD, Crossplane, Datadog, Google Cloud Platform, Go, Python, Functional Programming, Test Driven Design, Observability Driven Design.

Experience and Education:
  • A Bachelor's degree in a technical field is typically required, along with 8-12 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 5-7 years of equivalent industry experience, or a PhD with 2-4 years of experience.
Travel Requirements:
  • 5-15% travel may be necessary.
Remote Work:
