Process Improvement Engineer

This role is pivotal in spearheading the creation and upkeep of a precise and efficient work measurement framework. The focus is on the standardization of processes and methodologies, ensuring that effective productivity metrics are established through time and frequency evaluations.

The individual will verify that Bills of Materials (BOMs) and standard costs accurately reflect the appropriate material, labor, and scrap components. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the analysis, recommendations, and execution of enhancements to existing workflows and processes aimed at increasing throughput, minimizing costs, and enhancing accuracy and consistency.
  • Conducting industrial engineering time assessments and translating them into labor standard objectives for operations.
  • Updating and maintaining standard work across all significant process paths within peer operations, including data collection and best practice training methodologies to support the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Establishing, maintaining, and consistently refreshing computer-based labor standards and productivity expectations.
  • Collaborating with operations to determine suitable machine speeds alongside associated scrap and waste targets, reflecting these in BOMs and standard costs.
  • Creating methods for tracking and reporting key performance indicators (KPIs) in warehouse and manufacturing settings, including productivity metrics and planning tools to optimize labor use and monitor waste.
  • Performing labor audits and time studies to validate and ensure the reasonableness and integrity of all implemented labor standards.
  • Training operational staff on work sampling techniques and engineered standards development, including thorough investigation methods for issues or complaints.
  • Assisting in the evaluation and subsequent revision of all work methods and workflows to ensure ergonomic correctness.
  • Supporting the analysis and cost justification for capital project requests as necessary.
  • Working with Inventory Control to uphold a high level of inventory accuracy.
  • Participating in Quality and Safety Committees to influence respective metrics through standardization.
  • Collaborating with procurement and inventory teams on standardization initiatives.
  • Occasional travel may be required to promote standardization and best practices across the supply chain.
  • Facilitating lean events and auditing for compliance with Lean/5S principles.
  • Conducting capacity analyses for existing plants.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering or a related discipline; a Master's degree is advantageous.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Industrial Engineering, with a background in the automotive sector being a plus.
  • Practical experience in formulating and implementing engineered labor standards in manufacturing and warehousing environments.
  • Strong skills in mathematical and statistical analysis, including simulation capabilities.
  • Experience in process design, work measurement, productivity enhancement, cost reduction, Kaizen, 5S, and project execution is essential.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and identify root causes for prompt action, temporary solutions, and long-term sustainable resolutions.
  • Proven ability to plan, manage, and drive projects to completion while accepting accountability for progress and quality.
  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated capacity to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and SQL, with experience in work measurement methodologies and tools.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems; experience with WMS is a plus.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts as required.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is preferred.

The target salary range for this position is $90,000-120,000, with actual base salary depending on various factors such as qualifications, relevant experience, specific skills, education level, certifications, and geographic location.
