Position Summary
Kairos Power is in search of a driven and meticulous Process Design Engineer to be part of our Inert Gas System division. This role offers the opportunity to engage in a collaborative setting, contributing to the design, enhancement, and documentation of the Inert Gas System for our initial low-power demonstration reactor, upcoming commercial units, and associated testing systems. You will play a vital role within a multi-disciplinary team that is pioneering advancements in the realm of advanced nuclear energy.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate engineering calculations and documentation for the sizing of process equipment and instruments, including vessels, heat exchangers, control valves, relief valves, compressors, and blowers.
- Work closely with our internal procurement team and external suppliers to identify components that meet system specifications.
- Oversee the Request for Quotation (RFQ) process, systematically evaluating proposed solutions and thoroughly reviewing datasheets, drawings, and documentation.
- Actively respond to vendor Requests for Information (RFIs), addressing inquiries to ensure a complete understanding of product offerings.
- Review and revise piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and process flow diagrams (PFDs) to accurately reflect system design.
- Develop and document system design, operational modes, necessary controls and interlocks, and maintenance strategies for the entire plant lifecycle.
- Collaborate with Mechanical Design, Structural, Instrumentation & Controls, Operations, and other Process Design Engineers to ensure designs align with plant requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Over 7 years of relevant industry experience in refining, chemical, or power generation process design engineering.
- Skilled in interpreting Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and process equipment datasheets.
- Experience in direct collaboration with external vendors for the design and delivery of process equipment.
- Familiarity with the HazOp process and a proven track record of designing with a safety-first approach to create resilient systems.
- Knowledge of process simulation and/or hydraulic simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, Pro/II, Hysys, AFT Fathom/Arrow, SiNet, Apros).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative environment with excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.

The salary range for this position is $116,400 to $137,000 for employees working onsite. This range represents the typical starting rate for candidates hired. Factors influencing actual salary may include education, experience, skills, and market data for the work location.
