Your Role
As a Process Safety Engineer, you will be an essential part of our dynamic team, contributing your expertise in process safety and risk management. You will play a pivotal role in establishing the framework for Process Safety at BIL Sila, advising project teams on necessary modifications and engineering controls to ensure safe scaling of operations. This position offers a unique chance to help develop and implement a comprehensive Process Safety Management (PSM) program from its inception.
You will collaborate closely with a diverse group of professionals, all working towards a common goal. Our approach begins with fundamental principles, as we innovate new materials, design and validate processes for pilot-scale development and commercial production, and continuously enhance our manufacturing capabilities. Your role will involve working alongside a core team of Process, Equipment, Manufacturing, and Environmental Health and Safety experts on complex, multi-phase projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide engineers, project managers, construction teams, and other stakeholders in evaluating process safety requirements.
- Lead safety assessments such as quantitative risk assessments (QRA), Hazard Identification (HAZID), Hazard and Operability (HAZOP), and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA).
- Review engineering documentation and existing equipment to ensure compliance with internal standards and industry best practices.
- Develop and maintain BIL Sila's standards, specifications, and guidelines related to Process Safety.
- Analyze potential physical impacts and consequences of specific process safety scenarios.
- Conduct risk assessments for emerging process safety issues and formulate mitigation strategies.
- Oversee internal investigations of incidents and near misses, define corrective actions, and ensure their implementation.
- Influence cross-functional teams and drive technical solutions as necessary.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant process safety experience.
- Extensive knowledge of industry standards such as API, NFPA, ASME, CGA, and CCPS, with experience in developing internal guidelines.
- Strong understanding of OSHA Process Safety Management and EPA Risk Management Program requirements.
- Experience in applying protective measures and identifying risk reduction strategies.
- Ability to effectively influence a growing organization in process safety management.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently on problem-solving.
- Willingness to challenge conventional practices and drive improvements.
- Experience with Dust Explosion Hazard analysis is a plus.
- Familiarity with process simulation tools is advantageous.
- Adhere to safety protocols by wearing personal protective equipment such as lab coats, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed shoes.
- Ability to move between buildings and remain stationary for extended periods.
- Proficient in operating office equipment, including computers and printers.
The starting base salary for this position ranges from $151,000 to $177,503. Actual compensation will depend on various factors, including education, experience, and skills. This salary is part of BIL Sila's comprehensive Total Rewards package, which may include benefits, perks, equity, and bonuses.
