Job Title: Special Needs Educational Support Assistant

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fosters and sustains a positive and organized learning atmosphere.
  • Supports students in fulfilling educational tasks assigned by the classroom educators.
  • Facilitates individualized instruction in diverse educational environments.
  • Implements instructional strategies as outlined by the classroom educator and the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
  • Guides students in adhering to established routines and completing assigned tasks.
  • Assists in formulating personalized schedules for individual students.
  • Designs and executes sensory engagement programs and activities.
  • Participates in motor skill development activities and structured learning drills.
  • Creates alternative independent work tasks aligned with the educator's lesson plans.
  • Contributes to the development and execution of student behavior management strategies.
  • Coordinates support efforts between home and school environments.
  • Assists in gathering data and implementing necessary accommodations.
  • Maintains effective communication with special education instructors to support IEP objectives.
  • Exhibits teamwork, a willingness to learn, and a collaborative spirit.
  • Under guidance, aids in the upkeep of student documentation.
  • Tracks attendance, behavioral metrics, and performs administrative tasks.
  • Provides direct assistance to educators and students through intervention strategies and modeling.
  • Collaborates with specialists to execute behavior management, transition, and intervention plans.
  • Supervises students during non-instructional periods and meal times.
  • Keeps a detailed log of behavioral records, intervention strategies, and communication notes.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain a compassionate approach towards students with disabilities. Openness to acquiring specialized skills for working with students on the autism spectrum. Effective communication skills with students, guardians, and colleagues are essential. A high school diploma or equivalent is required; CPR certification is advantageous.

Educational Background and Experience:

A high school diploma or equivalent is necessary. A combination of training and experience that equips the candidate with the requisite skills for the role.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

Responsibilities are carried out in various educational settings. The role requires physical activities such as walking, standing, and light lifting. Interaction with students, staff, guardians, and healthcare professionals is integral. The ability to adapt to varying physical conditions is essential. Flexibility and patience are crucial attributes. Knowledge of hygiene protocols is necessary. The candidate must be capable of functioning effectively under pressure.
