Position Overview:
This role entails the maintenance and servicing of the fleet vehicles and equipment for the Columbus Consolidated Government.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough inspections and preventive maintenance on medium to heavy-duty trucks, generators, and various outdoor power equipment including chain saws, tillers, and mowers.
- Supervise and provide training to inmates, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
- Generate work orders and maintain detailed records of maintenance activities.
- Initiate requests for necessary parts and supplies.
- Affix vehicle identification numbers on new equipment and facilitate the distribution of new assets to operators.
- Repair body damage on vehicles and manage the salvage and auction processes for decommissioned vehicles.
- Perform welding tasks as required.
- Maintain, repair, and calibrate shop tools and equipment.
- Execute additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Comprehensive knowledge of automotive repair and maintenance practices.
- Proficient in the use of shop tools and equipment.
- Familiarity with safety protocols and procedures.
- Competent in computer usage and skilled in interpersonal communication.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- Capacity to perform mathematical calculations.

Education and Experience:
- A level of knowledge typically associated with specialized training in the field, alongside foundational skills usually acquired through a high school education.
- Relevant experience that provides a solid understanding of the primary responsibilities of the position, generally gained through an apprenticeship or similar role lasting one to two years.

Licensing:
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the appropriate vehicle or equipment type.

Physical Requirements:
The role necessitates the supervision of state inmate labor and requires the employee to pass a certification process within a specified timeframe.

The work environment may involve:
- Frequent lifting of both light and heavy objects.
- Climbing ladders and using tools that require dexterity.
- Distinguishing between color shades.

Additional Physical Abilities Required:
- Balancing, climbing, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, manual dexterity, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, and walking.

The position is typically performed in various settings including offices, warehouses, and outdoor environments, where exposure to noise, dust, and machinery may occur. Protective equipment such as masks, goggles, or gloves may be necessary.
