POSITION OVERVIEW

The Refugee Minor Program (RMP) plays a crucial role in delivering case management, oversight, and assistance to young refugees residing in Australia without parental support. This program operates statewide, offering services throughout Metropolitan Melbourne and Regional Victoria. As an Education and Training Advisor, your primary responsibility will be to enhance and advance the educational achievements of children and adolescents supported by the RMP.

Employing a comprehensive systems approach, you will collaborate closely with various stakeholders within the education and training sector to guarantee that children and young individuals from refugee backgrounds receive the essential resources and support needed to realize their educational and developmental aspirations. Additionally, the Education and Training Advisor will be tasked with providing secondary consultation and professional development to case managers within the refugee minor program and affiliated agencies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

Directly engage with a caseload of young individuals to facilitate their involvement in educational, training, or vocational opportunities. Interact directly with unaccompanied young refugees, demonstrating sensitivity to issues related to gender, race, religion, and culture while working with clients and their guardians from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. This includes devising innovative methods to engage clients who may not respond to conventional interventions. Provide expert professional guidance to internal personnel and external partners regarding the educational needs of children and young people from refugee backgrounds.
