Position Overview

Role Summary

The Youth Support Specialist position is designed to deliver trauma-informed care while ensuring the safety and supervision of young individuals in our program. This role adheres to the AMIkids Personal Growth Model and emphasizes the core principles of Positive Youth Development. All engagements will align with the AMIkids Way and our foundational values of prioritizing Kids First, Safety, and Family.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all interactions exemplify the principles of Kids First, Safety, Family, Relationships, Meaningful Participation, Challenge, Engagement, and Community Involvement.
  • Foster a nurturing environment that guarantees a physically and emotionally secure space for youth, promoting effective learning, growth, and progress towards their individualized objectives.
  • Exhibit supportive, consistent, and respectful behavior towards all individuals to cultivate an atmosphere of healthy relationships, trust, and mutual respect; establish clear boundaries while encouraging observations and reflections to promote equity and diversity.
  • Guide youth in making positive behavioral choices by imparting essential social-emotional skills, self-care techniques, academic support, communication abilities, and daily living skills in alignment with their personalized care plans and responsibilities.
  • Clearly communicate expectations and provide recognition along with positive reinforcement.
  • Encourage youth participation by offering opportunities for them to make choices in their daily activities and to share feedback regarding their programming experiences.
  • Employ prevention-based de-escalation techniques to mitigate or avert youth conflicts in accordance with established protocols.
  • Document youth behaviors, team interventions, and all necessary reports promptly, adhering to established guidelines.
  • Engage in Treatment Team meetings and scheduled debriefs to discuss youth progress and behavior.
  • Maintain the facility, equipment, and supplies according to established standards.
  • Comply with overnight shift protocols: supervise youth continuously, conduct bed checks, and complete shift documentation.
  • Actively participate in day trips and special activities.
  • Maintain CPR and First Aid certifications through a nationally recognized organization.
  • Administer first aid and CPR during emergencies in accordance with national standards.
  • Keep up-to-date with crisis intervention and de-escalation training and certification.
  • Transport youth and may perform other work-related driving tasks.
  • Assist with special projects and additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED (degree preferred).
  • At least one year of experience in child welfare, particularly within foster youth or related youth service programs.
  • Behavior Health Technician Certification or relevant experience preferred.
