Position Overview

The role of an Educational Technology Support Specialist involves providing assistance in accordance with established guidelines, accepted practices, and institutional policies under the supervision of senior staff. This position may include coordinating with other educational support personnel within the designated area or educational program.

This role is designed to enhance the educational services provided to students, while explicitly excluding responsibilities defined for teachers under relevant educational legislation. Supervision of students may be required, either individually or in small groups, under controlled conditions where a teacher retains overall responsibility.

Qualifications and certifications of up to three years may be necessary for this position, with specific exclusions for certain roles such as Registered Nurse.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized guidance, under the oversight of senior personnel, to students regarding the proper handling and utilization of materials and equipment.
  • Assist staff with safety protocols related to specific functional areas, including the management of chemicals in science laboratories.
  • Support the provision of reference services to educators.
  • Develop and implement safety procedures within work and educational environments in alignment with institutional policies and applicable safety regulations.
  • Advise educators on the technical aspects of curriculum implementation.
  • Manage experiments and the use of equipment and materials under the guidance of teachers, providing basic instruction as necessary.
  • Initiate, design, and develop basic computer systems, and perform routine software design tasks.

Additional expectations for this role include:

  • Assisting in the observation of students.
  • Supporting students in the operation of various technology and equipment, including woodworking and systems technology tools.
  • Cataloging equipment and ensuring adequate supplies are available.
  • Verifying that machinery is regularly serviced and maintained, ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
  • Operating basic CAD programs, 3D printers, and laser cutters.
