Position Overview

The role of an Educational Technology Support Specialist involves providing assistance in accordance with established guidelines, accepted practices, and institutional policies under the supervision of senior staff. This position may entail coordinating activities among other educational support personnel within the designated work area or educational program.

This position supports the educational services offered to students and is not intended to include teaching responsibilities as defined by relevant educational legislation. Supervision of students may be required, either individually or in small groups, under controlled conditions where the primary responsibility remains with a qualified teacher.

Qualifications may include certification and/or training of up to three years at this level, excluding roles such as Registered Nurse, which require higher qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized guidance, under the direction of senior personnel, to students regarding the safe handling and utilization of materials and equipment.
  • Assist staff with safety protocols related to specific functional areas, including the management of chemicals in laboratory settings.
  • Support teachers by offering reference services and assistance in implementing curriculum components.
  • Develop and enforce safety procedures within work and educational environments in line with institutional policies and relevant safety regulations.
  • Manage experiments and the use of equipment under teacher supervision, providing basic instruction as necessary.
  • Initiate, design, and develop basic computer systems and engage in routine software design tasks.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the observation of students' progress and engagement.
  • Supporting students in utilizing various technology and equipment, including woodworking and systems technology tools.
  • Cataloging equipment and ensuring the availability of necessary consumables.
  • Regularly checking that machinery is maintained, functional, and stored in compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Operating basic CAD programs, 3D printers, and laser cutting devices.
