POSITION SUMMARY

The Refugee Minor Program (RMP) is dedicated to delivering comprehensive case management, oversight, and assistance to unaccompanied young refugees residing in Australia. This program operates statewide, offering services throughout Metropolitan Melbourne and Regional Victoria. As a Youth Education Specialist, your primary focus will be to enhance and advance the educational achievements of children and adolescents under the care of the RMP.

Adopting a holistic approach, you will collaborate closely with various stakeholders within the education and training sectors to guarantee that young individuals from refugee backgrounds have access to essential resources and support systems necessary for realizing their educational and developmental aspirations. The Youth Education Specialist will also be tasked with providing expert consultation and professional growth opportunities for case managers within the refugee minor program and associated agencies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

Directly engage with a caseload of young individuals to facilitate their participation in educational, training, or vocational programs. Interact with unaccompanied young refugees in a manner that respects and acknowledges the diversity of gender, race, religion, and culture, ensuring sensitivity when working with clients and their guardians from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. This includes devising innovative methods to connect with clients who may not respond to conventional interventions. Offer authoritative professional guidance to internal personnel and external partners regarding the educational requirements of children and young people from refugee backgrounds.
