Overview

The Procurement Specialist is responsible for managing the acquisition of materials and services essential for the organization. This role is crucial in ensuring that the company meets its operational goals by selecting suppliers who excel in quality, timely delivery, cost-effectiveness, and reliability. The Specialist adheres to established purchasing policies and is adept at executing all critical responsibilities associated with procurement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluates purchase requests, engages in negotiations with suppliers to secure optimal pricing, availability, quality, and delivery timelines.
  • Collaborates with Production Control and Manufacturing teams to align material needs with dynamic production schedules.
  • Assesses budgetary concerns to identify and resolve purchasing inconsistencies.
  • Selects items for procurement based on expertise, historical data, supplier evaluations, and engineering recommendations.
  • Determines procurement strategies, including direct purchases or competitive bidding.
  • Facilitates the expedited delivery of critical components and manages logistics.
  • Aims to maintain a minimum of 90% on-time delivery performance as established by management.
  • Works alongside quality assurance to address defective products and provide supplier feedback.
  • Takes prompt action to rectify issues requiring supplier intervention.
  • Mentors and trains Junior Buyers, providing support during peak workloads or absences.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Strong analytical skills for conducting price versus cost evaluations, including discounts and percentages.
  • Adept at solving practical challenges and navigating variable scenarios with limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze various forms of documentation, including business reports and technical specifications.
  • Skilled in report writing and business correspondence.
  • Capable of effectively presenting information using spreadsheets and software tools.
  • Responsive to inquiries from management, production supervisors, and clients.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required; an Associate's Degree is strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in purchasing, production planning, or a related field is required.
