Overview

The Procurement Specialist is responsible for managing the acquisition of goods and services, including raw materials, machinery components, tools, and maintenance supplies for the organization. This role is crucial in achieving company goals by selecting suppliers that excel in quality, delivery, pricing, and dependability. The specialist adheres to established purchasing policies and procedures while demonstrating expertise in fulfilling all essential duties and responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluates requisitions and engages with suppliers to negotiate optimal pricing, availability, quality, and delivery timelines.
  • Collaborates with Production Control and Production teams to ensure material requirements are met for a dynamic manufacturing environment.
  • Assesses budgetary items for purchasing inconsistencies.
  • Selects products for procurement based on supplier history, profiles, surveys, and engineering recommendations.
  • Determines procurement methods, whether through direct purchase or competitive bidding.
  • Expedites critical items and coordinates delivery schedules.
  • Aims to maintain a 90% or higher on-time delivery average as established by department leadership.
  • Works alongside quality assurance to address defective parts and provide supplier feedback.
  • Takes prompt action on items requiring supplier corrections.
  • Mentors and trains Junior Buyers, providing support during peak workloads or absences.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Ability to perform calculations for price analysis, discounts, percentages, and other financial metrics.
  • Capable of solving practical problems and navigating variables with limited standardization.
  • Skilled in interpreting various business documents, technical procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Competent in writing reports and business correspondence.
  • Adept at presenting information effectively using spreadsheets and software tools.
  • Responsive to inquiries from management, production supervisors, and customers.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required; an Associate's Degree is strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in purchasing, production planning, or a related field is required.
