Exciting Opportunity for a Senior Traffic Engineer at the City of Chesapeake's Department of Public Works

We are looking for a skilled professional with a strong background in traffic engineering to take on a pivotal role within our team. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Expertise in traffic modeling and the ability to provide technical guidance.
  • Oversight responsibilities for the Traffic Calming Program and evaluation of Traffic Impact Analyses.
  • Strong knowledge of traffic engineering practices and experience in leading teams.
  • Familiarity with traffic signal timing and operational systems.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience for Engineer II and 5 years for Engineer III roles.
  • Engineer III candidates must hold a Professional Engineer license.
  • Proficiency in traffic engineering software such as Synchro, VISSIM, and AutoCAD.
  • Certification as a Virginia DEQ Certified Plan Reviewer and/or Program Administrator for SWM within 12 months is required.
  • A valid driver's license with a driving record that meets regulatory standards.
  • Engineer-In-Training or Professional Engineer license is preferred.
  • Flexibility to work varying hours as necessary.
