Job Summary

The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District is seeking a highly skilled Financial Operations Specialist to join our Finance Division. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial data, while providing exceptional customer service to our stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Data Management: Post and verify primary financial data for use in processing payroll, maintaining accounting records, classifying information, and determining proper account code distribution.
  • Government Reporting: Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual government reporting in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Payroll and Benefits Administration: Prepare, reconcile, and maintain reports for several payroll and benefit providers.
  • Usage Invoicing: Analyze data from multiple municipalities for usage invoicing.
  • Vendor Invoice Management: Post and verify vendor invoices for payment, match invoices to purchase orders and receiving documents, and assist in resolving disputed invoices.
  • Travel and Expense Management: Prepare travel and expense reports for payment, including registrations, hotel reservations, travel advances, and reimbursements.
  • Revenue Cycle Management: Prepare invoices for user charges, tax levies, Milorganite, grant and loan payment requests, and miscellaneous receivables.
  • Cash Management: Prepare daily bank deposits and accurately post receipts to the cash journal and accounts receivable subsidiary ledger.
  • Accounts Receivable Management: Assist in the collection of past due accounts receivables, perform collection calls to various distributors and open accounts, and obtain payments while maintaining positive customer relationships.
  • Technical Support: Act as a technical resource to others to address and resolve inquiries and problems.
  • Professional Development: Maintain technical competency and remain current in technology and changes in the industry.
  • Compliance: Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations.
Requirements:
  • Education: Associate or technical degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year of job-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to efficiently work with a variety of accounting software and accurately enter data into the system.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of accounting basics and general payroll practices.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to work with substantial amounts of information and maintain accuracy.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to analyze and interpret information.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail.
  • Customer Service Skills: Ability to collect past due accounts while maintaining positive relations.
  • Time Management Skills: Distinct time management, customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer Skills: Ability to operate a variety of standard business machines, such as computer and related software.
  • Software Proficiency: Computer software proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
