Overview

The Head of Maintenance Operations is responsible for leading and developing ATS Maintenance Personnel, Facilities, and Terminal Yards across various locations. This position requires a highly driven and engaged individual who will enhance the strength and growth of ATS Maintenance. The role involves providing a strategic vision for maintenance shop solutions and executing the roadmap to achieve organizational objectives.

Education and Experience


A Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from an accredited institution or 6+ years of relevant experience and/or training; or a combination of education and experience in the transportation sector is required.
Minimum of 3 years of director-level leadership experience is essential for managing the P&L of annual budget expenditures versus actual costs.

Proven experience in team building and collaboration with business leaders, third parties, and internal staff is necessary.

Exceptional coordination, facilitation, consultation, and conflict resolution skills are required.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize workload in a dynamic environment.

Proficiency in analytical and data visualization competencies is mandatory.

Excellent interpersonal skills; capable of establishing trust and rapport with all levels of staff and effectively relating to diverse cultures.

Familiarity with scorecard reporting on internal and external metrics is preferred.

Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Creative thinking and the ability to contribute innovative ideas to projects are essential.

A proactive commitment to ATS corporate values and the success of all staff is expected.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) is required.

Strong communication skills (written, listening, and verbal) are essential.

Willingness to travel infrequently, including overnight trips, is necessary.

Key Responsibilities and Expected Outcomes

Provide leadership and oversight for ATS Maintenance Personnel, Facilities, and Terminal Yards.

Supervise Shop Managers, Service Leaders, Technicians, and Parts staff directly and/or indirectly. Resolve complex business challenges for team members.

Accountable for shop productivity and repair quality in collaboration with Shop Managers.

Develop continuous improvement initiatives by reviewing, modifying, and enhancing processes in alignment with evolving customer expectations and organizational goals.

Address customer concerns related to maintenance; cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders through regular and professional communication.


Manage staff, budget, team goals and objectives, projects, processes, and support activities related to team development and integration.


Assume P&L responsibility; effectively manage the department's annual operating budget, including both internal and outsourced PMs and Repairs, cost center, AP, and AR.


Monitor performance, research workflow processes, conduct strategic meetings with stakeholders, administer the budgeting process, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

Provide daily direction to the team to ensure customer needs are met. Assist with inquiries, provide guidance, and handle escalations as necessary.

Implement effective employee performance management using SMART goals, constructive feedback, coaching for improvement, and progressive discipline.


Collaborate with Human Resources in recruiting, interviewing, selecting, onboarding, and training new employees to ensure a positive candidate experience.


Project a favorable image of the company to promote its objectives and enhance public recognition and acceptance across all areas of endeavor.


Foster strong working relationships throughout the organization; leverage partnerships to help each area succeed and maximize ATS results.


Continuously seek to enhance quality, efficiency, and productivity standards by creating, modernizing, and/or revising processes, tools, and resources (e.g., forms, procedures, technologies, and strategies).


Support ATS' culture by aligning actions, behaviors, performance, and decisions with the Company's values as outlined in our All-Employee Competencies.

Carry out managerial and leadership responsibilities in accordance with ATS' policies and applicable laws.

Perform key All-Director Responsibilities; Drive the Business Forward, Build the Bench Strength, Institute System Accountability, and Exhibit Organizational Leadership.

Complete work responsibilities outside of normal business hours as needed, with infrequent travel required.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
