Position Overview

The Field Technician II plays a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and performance of our telecommunications network. This position involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at maintaining and enhancing service quality in the assigned geographic area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute a range of tasks tailored to the needs of your designated area, working under moderate supervision.
  • Engage in project-related meetings and conference calls to stay informed and aligned with team objectives.
  • Carry out installations and commissioning of optical transmission systems, troubleshooting issues with guidance from senior staff.
  • Conduct acceptance testing including OTDR, Ethernet, BER, and SONET to ensure system reliability.
  • Oversee the installation, decommissioning, and troubleshooting of network and customer services.
  • Perform preliminary site assessments to determine construction requirements and equipment space availability.
  • Manage preventive and demand maintenance for network infrastructure and materials.
  • Commit to understanding and implementing industry best practices for installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Handle the installation, labeling, cleaning, and testing of fiber optic patch cords.
  • Occasionally work on outside plant networks, including metro and long-haul fiber installations.
  • Proactively identify potential network issues and report them to prevent service disruptions.
  • Meet established objectives and goals as defined by business needs.
  • Document routine reports and complete necessary paperwork such as site surveys and audit reports, ensuring effective communication with stakeholders.
  • Resolve issues involving multiple variables in standardized situations using deductive reasoning to enhance customer satisfaction and network performance.
  • Perform daily inspections of company vehicles to ensure safe operating conditions.
  • Inspect outdoor facilities, including cabinets and buried cables, in various environmental conditions.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Act as a resource for less experienced technicians, providing guidance and support.
  • Assist colleagues with various tasks as required.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience.
  • Basic training in telecommunications and safety practices is advantageous.
  • Ability to navigate company systems and applications effectively.
  • Capable of working collaboratively in team settings as well as independently.
  • Strong written communication skills for effective interaction with peers and customers.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting safety documents and equipment manuals.
  • Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and work overtime as needed.
  • Must maintain eligibility to operate a company vehicle in accordance with policy.

Compensation

The base pay range for this position is $31.50 USD/hr, commensurate with experience.
