Telecommunications Field Specialist II

Position Overview
The Field Technician II plays a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing our network infrastructure. This position involves a variety of responsibilities that require both technical skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute diverse tasks based on the requirements of your designated area, operating under some supervision.
- Engage in project-related meetings and conference calls to discuss ongoing processes.
- Conduct installations and commissioning of optical transmission systems, troubleshooting issues with guidance from leadership.
- Perform acceptance testing including OTDR, Ethernet, BER, and SONET.
- Manage installation, decommissioning, and troubleshooting of network and customer services.
- Provide initial site assessments for construction requirements and equipment space availability.
- Oversee preventive and demand maintenance of the network and critical infrastructure.
- Commit to understanding and applying industry best practices for installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Handle the installation, labeling, cleaning, and testing of fiber optic patch cords.
- Occasionally work on outside plant networks, including metro and long-haul fibers.
- Proactively identify potential network issues and report them to prevent service disruptions.
- Achieve documented objectives and goals as defined by business needs.
- Prepare routine reports and documentation, effectively communicating with customers, management, and peers.
- Utilize deductive reasoning to resolve problems and enhance customer experience and network performance.
- Conduct daily inspections of company vehicles to ensure safe operating conditions.
- Inspect outdoor facilities, including cabinets and construction sites, in various environmental conditions.
- Adhere to all personal safety policies and procedures.
- Serve as an informal resource for less experienced technicians.
- Assist colleagues with tasks as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of two years of relevant experience.
- Basic telecom and industry safety training is advantageous.
- Proficient in utilizing company systems and applications.
- Capable of working effectively in both team and individual settings.
- Strong written communication skills for interaction with internal and external peers.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, process documents, and vendor documentation.
- Capacity to regularly lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness to participate in a 24/7 on-call schedule and overtime as needed.
- Must maintain eligibility to operate a company vehicle according to policy.
Compensation
Base Pay Range: $31.50 USD/hr, commensurate with experience.
