Position Overview

The Field Technician II plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our telecommunications network. This position involves a variety of responsibilities that contribute to the operational success of our services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute a range of tasks tailored to the specific requirements of your designated area, working under limited supervision.
  • Engage in project-related meetings and conference calls to stay aligned with team objectives.
  • Carry out installations and commissioning of optical transmission systems, troubleshooting issues with guidance from senior staff.
  • Conduct acceptance testing including OTDR, Ethernet, BER, and SONET to ensure system integrity.
  • Manage the installation, decommissioning, and troubleshooting of network and customer services effectively.
  • Provide initial site assessments for construction needs and evaluate equipment space availability.
  • Oversee maintenance tasks for the network and critical infrastructure, ensuring materials are managed efficiently.
  • Commit to understanding and applying industry best practices for installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Handle the installation, labeling, cleaning, and testing of fiber optic patch cords with precision.
  • Occasionally work on outside plant networks, including metro and long-haul fiber installations.
  • Proactively identify potential network issues and report them to prevent service disruptions.
  • Strive to meet established objectives and performance goals as dictated by business needs.
  • Prepare routine reports and documentation, effectively communicating with customers, management, and colleagues.
  • Utilize deductive reasoning to resolve complex problems, enhancing customer satisfaction and network performance.
  • Perform daily inspections of company vehicles to ensure safety and operational readiness.
  • Inspect various outdoor facilities and construction sites under diverse environmental conditions.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures diligently.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for junior Field Technicians.
  • Assist team members with various tasks as required.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in the field.
  • Basic training in telecommunications and safety practices is advantageous.
  • Proficient in utilizing company systems and applications for task completion.
  • Capable of working effectively in both team settings and independently.
  • Strong written communication skills for daily interactions with peers and customers.
  • Ability to interpret safety documents and vendor manuals related to company equipment.
  • Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Willingness to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation and overtime as needed.
  • Must maintain eligibility to operate a company vehicle, adhering to driving policy.

Compensation

Base Pay Range: $31.50 USD/hr, commensurate with experience.
