Job Overview

Join the dynamic team at the Greater Somerset County YMCA, a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing community well-being through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This role presents a unique opportunity to contribute to the daily operations of our School Age Child Care (SACC) program, ensuring a nurturing and engaging environment for children.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee groups of children, providing guidance and support to staff as needed.
  • Assist in the daily opening and closing procedures of the SACC site.
  • Step in as the Site Supervisor during their absence, ensuring continuity of care and program delivery.
  • Design and execute a diverse and stimulating schedule of activities for children aged 6-13, including Homework Time, Enrichment Activities, Organized Physical Activities, Free Play, and Snack Time.
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere that encourages productive play and learning, ensuring access to necessary materials.
  • Exhibit leadership qualities, serving as a positive role model for colleagues and children alike.
  • Communicate effectively with the Site Supervisor and Program Director regarding any issues related to participants.
  • Supervise volunteers in collaboration with the Site Supervisor.
  • Support communication with parents and families in partnership with the Site Director.
  • Manage daily snack provisions and maintain an organized inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Keep accurate attendance records and ensure compliance with safety regulations as mandated by relevant authorities.
  • Implement health and safety policies to protect program participants and staff, including thorough documentation of incidents.
  • Adhere to YMCA policies and procedures, particularly concerning medical and disciplinary matters.
  • Promote YMCA programs within the community, reflecting the organization’s mission and values.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • At least one year of experience working with children in educational or recreational settings.
  • Strong judgment skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a team of staff and volunteers.
  • Commitment to inclusivity, serving individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Positive attitude and proactive approach to responsibilities.
  • Dedication to the mission and objectives of the YMCA.

Work Schedule:

This position typically involves hours during weekdays, with varying schedules based on program needs.
